For teachers · A note from Scott Hunter, creator of DesignClass
I built DesignClass so that every pupil and teacher of Design, Engineering and Technology in Scotland could use good resources for free. Teacher membership is how I keep it that way.

01Running costs
DesignClass doesn't have adverts, sponsors or a company behind it. It's just me, and I pay the bills myself. These are the three big costs.
Cost 01
The server, domain and security that keep the site fast and online for every school, every day.
Cost 02
Storage for all the drawings, worksheets, past papers, CAD files and resources you download.
Cost 03
Hosting and streaming the tutorial videos, so pupils can watch them in class or at home.
As more schools use DesignClass, the costs go up. Without support from teachers I would have to close the site, or lock parts of it to cut down the traffic. I'd much rather keep it open for everyone.

02Teacher members
Lessons and tutorials stay free for everyone. As a thank you, members get the extra teacher material that saves you time.
01
Ready-made assessments you can use with your classes.
02
See new projects before they are released to everyone else.
03
Marking schemes to go with the assessments and projects.
There is no set schedule for releases. New material goes up when it's ready.
03The future
My plan is to set up a Board of Directors and turn DesignClass into a charity or foundation that supports Design, Engineering and Technology education in Scotland. Its mission will be:
Mission 01
For teachers, student teachers, pupils and parents.
Mission 02
Promote DET education and the value it brings to young people and to society.
Mission 03
Help keep the subject modern, advanced and relevant.
Any money above the cost of hosting the site will go into prizes and resources for the community. I'll post the receipts online, so you can see exactly where your money went.
“Thank you for helping keep DesignClass free for every DET pupil in Scotland.”
